Oil Pastel Self-Portraits

Self-portraits always seem so scary for my students (and for everyone!). When we started this project, we started out slowly by looking into a mirror and choosing one facial feature to practice drawing. Once the student felt confident in drawing that particular feature, they moved on to another feature and did the same!

I let them take their time in this process because I wanted them to feel as confident as possible when going into their final piece, and I think it really paid off! Check out the final products below! I'm so proud!

We used oil pastels to add color (with the exception of one chalk pastel background), which I LOVE because of how bright and vibrant everyone's has turned out! Stop by the KaleidoKids Studio at any time to come check out these portraits in person!
